Jan Brueghel (3c Galileo – Devoted To You, by Danehill Dancer) continues to excite, as he made it three from three in the Group 3 Gordon Stakes at Goodwood.
The Aidan O’Brien-trained colt was sent off favourite as he stepped up to a mile and a half, with his impressive debut win and Group 3 success having come over ten furlongs. The bay raced in second for much of the way, improving to lead from two furlongs out and dug deep under Ryan Moore to prevail by a neck, with another three lengths and three quarters back to the third.
“Jan Brueghel was very green,” the winning rider said. “It was a difficult track for him and he’s carried a penalty too, so you’d have to be happy with what he’s done. He’ll get better still. There’s definitely more class in there, you’ve just got to get it out of him.”
Owned by Coolmore partners with Westerberg, the son of Galileo is a full-brother is Irish Derby winner Sovereign. The pair are out of Barronstown’s homebred Group performer Devoted To You, whose filly by St Mark’s Basilica sells at the upcoming Goffs Orby Sale.
