Monumental (2c Kingman – Riqa, by Dubawi) took another step forward on his third start to get off the mark in Tuesday’s seven furlong maiden at Gowran.
The Aidan O’Brien-trained colt finished a promising third in a Curragh maiden last month and enjoyed a boost in form when the winner landed a Group 3 next time out. Reunited with Wayne Lordan on Tuesday, the bay took a prominent position by halfway and was ridden to challenge two furlongs from home. He led soon after and ran on well to score by two and a half lengths.
Speaking after the race, Ballydoyle representative Chris Armstrong said, “Monumental did it nicely from the draw. That sort of trip suits and he has a host of options now. He definitely is a stakes horse in the making.”
Owned by Coolmore partners, Monumental is the first foal bred by Barronstown Stud out of Riqa.
