The Barronstown-bred Jan Brueghel (3c Galileo – Devoted To You, by Danehill Dancer) made an impressive start to his career when running out an eight length winner at the Curragh on Irish Guineas weekend.
Ryan Moore took the ride aboard the Aidan O’Brien-trained newcomer in Sunday’s ten furlong maiden and rode the bay to press the leader for much of the way. He improved to lead from over two furlongs out and was ridden clear inside the final furlong, as the more experienced favourite did his best to narrow the gap.
“Ryan loved him,” O’Brien revealed after the race. “He said he didn’t come on the bridle until he joined the leader and then he said he came alive. He said to go to a winners’ race with him and then go to the Gordon Stakes in Goodwood.”
Owned by Coolmore partners with Westerberg, Jan Brueghel is a full-brother to Irish Derby victor Sovereign and Irish St Leger third Dawn Rising. Barronstown Stud also bred their dam, Group 2 Debutante Stakes runner-up Devoted To You.
